Overview

Film and TV productions traditionally track expenses by photocopying receipts and manually entering items into spreadsheets, greatly delaying knowledge of what has been spent.

The insights of a film & TV industry insider set the stage for building an MVP to address this critical financial bottleneck.

Challenge

Users needed an easy-to-use cost tracking system that fit into their existing workflows.

The solution had to work well for people on set as well as back in the office, both on mobile and desktop.

Action

After interviewing users at every level of the expense tracking process, I modeled the key objects of the business domain to establish a UX architecture and data model.

Using a feedback-driven, iterative design-build-use process, I built a bespoke UI that enables crew members to easily scan receipts and manage the flow of cost tracking data.

The app leverages AI-powered document processing and data structuring at key points in user workflows.

Result

CrewSpend transforms a laborious analog process into an efficient digital one.

It virtually eliminates manual data entry, enabling producers to track production expenses in near real-time.

The app reduces workload, labor costs, and helps prevent overspending.

After launch, the client plans to continue development of additional features that assist in production team financial workflows.
